Where had I put the note? As I fumbled, he busied himself at the cluttered counter. The healer carefully measured out white powder into a vial of deep red liquid. Red liquid with some congealing brown at the top.
"It is routine." His voice jolted me. "No need to stare." I'd just heard the claws in the cat's steps, the underlying razor edge glinting in the sun.
"Yes... and here." The man half-smiled at my stammer and took the note.
He read softly it to himself. "Something to alleviate the effects of the dragonsbane toxin... reimbursement at month's end..." He turned abruptly and plucked a bottle off the shelf. "For whom?"
"None of your concern, imperial business. Now give me the bottle." Some of my nerve was back. I wouldn't be the Empress' firstborn daughter if I couldn't make people obey. One way or another.
The healer relinquished the bottle and I left on dragonback with it in my pocket.

Finally got around to putting this up. It's been written for awhile, so I don't really have a lot to say about it... But I felt like there should be something in the artist's description. I always love reading these, seeing what the artist/writer thought about the piece, what prompted them to create it, those kinds of things.

(Yes merge it with the previous chapter.) And does the healer have a name because he's cool okay I think I like him. But his first line doesn't make much sense. What's routine? The powdery stuff? And is that the bottle he gave her? So how was he able to make it before he got the note with the order? Where did he juST PRODUCE THIS PREMADE POTIONY THING FROM?
